Esperanza
is a single mother from Venezuela living in Houston with her daughter Faith and relatives. With little education and unable to speak English, she struggled to make ends meet, and needed a job to improve her family’s financial situation. She did not want to burden the relatives who welcomed her into their home.
So Esperanza came to MAM to learn English. The classes were a challenge, but her ESL teachers were determined to keep her from losing hope. They recognized her potential for success. Gaining confidence, Esperanza decided to enroll in MAM’s citizenship class as well.
After a year and a half of hard work, Esperanza officially passed the U.S. citizenship exam and will be sworn in as a citizen in January. Now she feels ready to begin MAM’s Employment Services Program.
This Christmas, Esperanza and Faith will celebrate their new beginnings!
